Meet the Muse: PHILIP GRAHAM

At Malabella our muses are our source of inspiration, a wellspring for us to create a collection that represents and carries the stories and intentions we infuse into the jewels.  Often times we wait to finalize designs until we’ve found our perfect muse and add pieces and edits that we believe our muse would wear during their travels and as a source of growth, meaning, and purpose.

We were beyond thrilled to welcome Philip as our first male muse; he brought Alchemy to life with the perfect amount of spice, sensuality and uniqueness. We named our newest collection, Alchemy, for its succinct and romantic meaning: a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination. Philip embodies this definition with true talent and grace. Meet our Muse, Philip Graham…

Malabella: What do you love to do for fun?
Philip: I like to try new places to eat, watch old movies, hike, and go explore antique stores.

M: What’s your sun sign?
P: Taurus.

M: What are your favorite forms of expression?
P: Photography, writing, and fashion.

M: What inspired you to become a model?
P: I became inspired by modeling’s cathartic effect. It makes me feel more emboldened to step out and become someone else that I wouldn’t otherwise typically be.

M: What is your favorite kind of modeling to take part in?
P: Editorials.

M: What’s a daily ritual you practice?
P: Intermittent fasting and drinking a lot of water.

M: What is your favorite mantra or intention?
P: ‘To a better future.’

M: Where are you originally from and where have you lived/traveled to? Which place is your favorite?
P: I am from Warrenton, VA. I grew up in between there and Winchester. I have lived in: Manhattan, NY; Princeton, NJ; Asheville NC; and Portland, ME. I have traveled to Montréal, Quebec City, Savannah, GA, and Martha’s Vineyard. My favorite would be Martha’s Vineyard, though that might change when I go to Italy next year.

M: You went to cosmetology school for make-up – what’s your favorite piece of make-up you own and why?
P: My favorite would be my Chanel foundations. It feels like I’m literally putting on a second layer of skin and it doesn’t feel like a layer of makeup.

M: Do you prefer doing make-up on yourself or others?
P: Definitely on others.

M: You said you’re about to start film school! How did you end up interested in film? What’s your favorite movie?
P: I think the idea that you can create a whole other realm for others and have that be your canvas is inspiring. I feel like all we have are each other’s stories. My favorite film is Mildred Pierce starring Joan Crawford and directed by Michael Curtiz.

M: What’s your favorite piece from Alchemy and why?
P: The Citrine Radiance Gold Necklace. I like that it energizes you through the power of the sun. We could all use a little bit more sunshine and energy in our lives.

M: Sunrise or Sunset?
Sunrise
